Responsibilities

The incumbent of this position works under the supervision of the Pipe Shop supervisor or other higher graded mechanics performing standard plumbing installations and repairs. Makes repairs by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing, and sealing defective parts of utility, supply, and disposal systems such as dirty traps, sections of broken pipe, and leaky drains. The incumbent hooks up various things such as water heaters, disposal units, faucets, toilets, drinking fountains, showers, etc. to installed systems. Must have knowledge of standard plumbing methods and techniques. Must know how to measure, cut, bend, and thread pipe; and how to caulk and seal elbows, union joints, faucets, and shower drains.

Qualifications

There is no specific length or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to perform the duties, as a plumbing worker without more than normal supervision. (screen out)

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
