Summary

AARP is seeking an MBA student as a summer intern to use newly acquired financial skills and apply them to the management of a multi-billion-dollar investment portfolio. AARP is a non-profit membership organization with over 37 million members which seeks to improve the lives of people over 50.

The intern is responsible for some of the quantitative, analytical, and research support used in implementing investment strategies for the broad range of funds managed by AARP. Funds are managed for AARP, its affiliates, and benefit plans. This position works closely with and under the direction of the investment management team and the Treasurer.

The intern is responsible for collecting, interpreting, and organizing large volumes of data and using it to help management build effective investment portfolios. This position also helps conduct research on various topics, including market trends, asset allocation strategies, and specific investment managers and funds.

This position works across a broad spectrum of investment pools, asset classes, and strategies, including alternative assets. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance and investments, managing data, and thinking strategically.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare summaries and analysis of data to support the investment process
  • Research market trends as well as specific investment trends and strategies
  • Take complex processes and procedures and validates, summarizes, and documents them in written narratives and flowcharts
  • Interpret results of complex models and prepares summaries and initial recommendations for a variety of audiences and stakeholders
  • Understand AARP's key investment and operating objectives and bring variances, trends, recommendations, and other useful information to improve the investment management function
Requirements
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline, and completion of one year of an accredited MBA program with a concentration in finance
  • Progress toward Chartered Financial Analyst preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing, with all levels of management, with internal and external stakeholders
  • Attention to detail, ability to work both independently and collaboratively, self-motivated problem solver, with strengths in planning, monitoring, organizing resources, and flexibility in meeting changing priorities
  • Investment analytical, project, and personnel management skills
  • Toigo MBA Program participants highly desired
