Responsibilities

Major duties include, but not limited to:

-The incumbent will report directly to the Chief of Staff and work with the Care Line Manager, Program Managers, Group Practice Manager and Associate Chief Nurse of Mental Health to advance a comprehensive patient management/clinical support program.
-Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to enhance the coordination of comprehensive patient care.
-Possess excellent leadership skills, should have a strong working knowledge of performance measures and is proficient in the principles of System Redesign
-Incumbent will promote innovation, inspire organizational excellence, and engage the work force and will need to demonstrate knowledge of accrediting policies, standards and regulations. (Knowledge of VHA policies and regulations is recommended).
-The incumbents experience in health care operations will be called upon in the planning, implementation and promotion of efficient patient flow and time access.
-The ideal candidate will bring leadership experience to an integrating MH Services, enhancing telehealth services, developing new clinical programs and strengthening academic relationships.
-Ensures the practice of psychiatric medicine is consistent with Joint Commission, CARF, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice psychiatric guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, mandatory continuing education, and HIPPA policies.
-The Associate Chief of Staff for Psychiatry and Mental Health will attend administrative meetings as designated and oversee performance improvement activities to ensure service compliance of the service for critical measures and monitors.

Work Schedule: 8:00AM-4:30PM (Monday-Friday) On Call as needed, evenings, weekends and Holidays

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements: Functional requirements include Light to Moderate Lifting (15 - 44 lbs.); Light Carrying (15 lbs. and under); use of fingers; both hands required; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Both eyes required Depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing (aid permitted).

Education

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Authorized
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. To participate in the program, you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy 1021 and submit your application within four months of appointment.
