Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the Direct Hire Authority (DHA) for Police Officers.

The first cut-off date for consideration of applicants will be February 9, 2021. Subsequent cutoff date will be the end of the month (02/28/2021) if needed, until the announcement closes.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Anti-Terrorism (AT) duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access at fixed installation, internal compound, and incident perimeter posts.
  • Responds to, investigates, and resolves most emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service.
  • Control installation entry points to reduce safety threats.
  • Prepare sworn statements and in-depth reports based on information gathered in the investigation.
  • Pursue and apprehend persons and perform booking procedures.
  • Perform access control and patrol duties to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage, and espionage to enforce the security regulations of the installation.
  • Conduct long and short term investigations.
  • Conduct traffic surveys and make recommendations to alter installation traffic patterns.

  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.

  • This position has a requirement to obtain and maintain an Individual Reliability Program certification.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state Driver?s License.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays or special situations.
  • This position requires both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position has a requirement for the successful completion of an initial weapons qualification test and semi-annually throughout the length of the appointment.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position has a requirement to perform routine and emergency daily duties while wearing a uniform.
  • This position requires law enforcement certification and completion of the Department of the Army Civilian Police (DACP)/U.S. Army Military Police Law Enforcement Academy WITHIN the first 12 months of employment.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 pounds or more in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires certification in the operation of various radar equipment.
  • This position requires certification in the use of chemical aerosol irritants and tear gas.
  • This position requires Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN)/Washington Area Law Enforcement System (WALES) certification.
  • This position is designated as Key and Mission Essential.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain Virginia certification in the operation of a Breathalyzer device.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06 in the Federal government,which includes responds to and investigates emergency calls. Exercises search and arrest authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects, interviews witnesses. Collects and preserves evidence. Conducts investigations on criminal cases. Develops case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspect to trial. Appears in court to testify at court proceedings. Performs required lifesaving first aid in the event of an emergency. Conducts civilian training regarding various law enforcement topics. Conducts traffic law enforcement patrol. Issues traffic citations. Sets up road blocks, traffic-control points, and directs traffic. Performs access control duties. Answers visitor questions and provides assistance. Assures criminal or Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) measures are met to protect installation command and assure mission accomplishment. Operates the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal. Uses law enforcement computer programs reports concerning all incidents and action taken.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education
