This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the Direct Hire Authority (DHA) for Police Officers.

The first cut-off date for consideration of applicants will be February 8, 2021. Subsequent cutoff date will be the end of the month (02/28/2021) if needed, until the announcement closes.

About the Position: This position serves as a Lead Police Officer with the the Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) Police/Provost Marshal Division, located at Fort Belvoir, VA.

  • Serves as Lead Police Officer assigned to shift operations, directs, coordinates and oversees desk operations.
  • Provides oversight and mentoring to civilian employees and technical guidance/direction to military and civilian police personnel.
  • Maintains records, prepares journals, blotters and reports and reviews police reports for clarity, legibility and accuracy.
  • Responds to emergency calls, investigates situations and interviews witnesses.
  • Excercises arrest authority and follows established procedures to assist or perform search of persons to seize weapons, contraband, drugs or evidence of a crime.
  • Conducts and/or participates in civilian training regarding various law enforcement topics.
  • Reports to supervisor on performance, progress, and training needs of employees and disciplinary problems.
  • Conducts traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer.
  • Performs protection duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access.
  • Establishes Incident Command at the onset of terrorist attack or other significant incident.
  • Operates the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal.
  • Participates in Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) exercises to maintain proficiency in response to installation natural or terrorist threats.

Occasional travel - You may be expected to perform temporary duty (TDY) travel for up to 10% for this position.

  • This position has a requirement for the successful completion of an initial weapons qualification test and semi-annually throughout the length of the appointment.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position has a requirement to perform routine and emergency daily duties while wearing a uniform.
  • This position requires law enforcement certification and completion of the Department of the Army Civilian Police (DACP)/U.S. Army Military Police Law Enforcement Academy WITHIN the first 12 months of employment.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 pounds or more in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires certification in the operation of various radar equipment.
  • This position requires certification in the use of chemical aerosol irritants and tear gas.
  • This position requires Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN)/Washington Area Law Enforcement System (WALES) certification.
  • This position is designated as Key and Mission Essential.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain Virginia certification in the operation of a Breathalyzer device.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Must possess one year of specialized experience EQUIVALENT to the next lower grade level of GS-07 in the Federal service which includes: performing law enforcement duties; managing critical incidents; completing reports to document incidents or criminal investigations; and providing technical guidance/direction to police personnel. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
