Responsibilities

As a Supervisory Interdisciplinary at the GS-1515/1550-14/15 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Leads rapid prototyping of data analysis and visualization solutions to counter WMD and threat networks.
  • Serves as an authoritative technical expert and represents DTRA in DoD and interagency discussions concerning data analysis and visualization solution requirements, concepts, and technologies.
  • Interfaces with CCMDs, Special Operations Forces, and other DoD customer organizations, at senior levels, to demonstrate capabilities; understand requirements; and iteratively refine and deliver prototypes.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with program offices (such as the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense) for the transition and sustainment of DTRA-developed prototypes.
  • Plans and oversees data science engagements and activities with decision authority concerning assigned resources and functions.Ensures data science activities are conducted in compliance with Directorate, Agency, and Department of Defense policy and guidance (e.g., cybersecurity, intelligence oversight, etc.).
  • Oversees the acquisition of needed contract services, as well as hardware, software, and licenses to support data science activities. Works with other departments and offices (e.g., information technology, facilities, etc.) to secure needed infrastructure and services under their purview.
  • Devises and drives implementation of process improvements to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and coordination of data science efforts.
  • Oversees the coordination of Agency activities and investments involving artificial intelligence (AI) and related technologies (e.g., machine learning).
  • Works with peers across the agency to initiate pilot efforts that apply RD-OPI-developed analysis and information sharing capabilities to Agency capability gaps.
  • Supervises a professional staff of military and civilian personnel.
  • Provides leadership consistent with the DTRA values, the DoD performance appraisal system, merit systems principles, EEO, and Affirmative Action policies, ensuring compliance with applicable government policies, standards, and practices.
  • Ensures assigned resources are efficiently and effectively utilized.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Leading research and development activities, in particular, experience leading programs involving data science or software development is highly desired.
  • Leading multi-disciplinary teams of experts.
  • Communicating effectively, through reports and briefings, to program stakeholders.
  • Interfacing with different customer organizations (particularly military) to identify and capture requirements, develop collaborative project plans, deliver capabilities, and receive feedback.
  • Countering weapons of mass destruction (chemical, biological, nuclear, or radiological) missions.

You may qualify at the GS-15, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Leading research and development activities, in particular, experience leading programs involving data science or software development is highly desired.
  • Leading multi-disciplinary teams of experts.
  • Communicating effectively, through reports and briefings, to program stakeholders.
  • Interfacing with different customer organizations (particularly military) to identify and capture requirements, develop collaborative project plans, deliver capabilities, and receive feedback.
  • Countering weapons of mass destruction (chemical, biological, nuclear, or radiological) missions.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1515/1550, series as listed below:

Operations Research Analyst (1515) series: Degree in operations research;OR At least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

Computer Science Series(1550) series: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis.
