Responsibilities

This position is located in the Department of Justice, Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA). General Counsel's Office (GCO). GCO provides advice to the U.S. Attorneys and EOUSA staff on a broad array of legal and policy issues and acts as liaison between Department of Justice components and the U.S. Attorneys' offices (USAO). If selected for this position you will be responsible for directly and independently supporting the General Counsel (GC), the Deputy General Counsels (DGC) and three to four Assistant General Counsels (AGC) by providing a wide variety of technical and analytical assistance services in support of the litigative efforts of the GCO. Typical duties include;
  • Assist attorneys in organizing and processing voluminous case information for efficient retrieval through automated means.
  • Provide assistance to attorneys in trial preparation by performing duties such as independently compiling trial notebooks and binders.
  • Assemble exhibits, affidavits, and other legal documents from file material.
  • Determine which matters should be referred to the attorney and the urgency of the matter.
  • Arrange travel by preparing itinerary, and securing transportation and hotel reservations.

Qualifications

GS-09 : To be qualified at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education OR a combination of Education and Experience.

Specialized Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in federal service performing a variety of automated support necessary in preparing, organizing, indexing, developing and managing legal exhibits, evidence and data relevant to cases presented in legal proceeding; managing of incoming and outgoing document discovery in accordance with e-Discovery and other procedural requirements; recommending optimal software applications for the compilation, analysis, and presentation of evidence.
OR
Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Law, Criminal Justice): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B. or J.D.);OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
