The Support Services Specialist is located in the Office of Administration, Office of Management and Administration, Tax Division, Department of Justice. The Office of Administration is responsible for facilities, property management, physical security, and emergency planning of all Division components in Washington DC and a field office.

Responsibilities

As a Support Services Specialist, at the full performance level (GS-13) of this position, the incumbent will be required to perform these responsibilities independently. At the GS-07 and GS-09 level, the incumbent will be expected to perform the tasks under close supervision, and in receipt of detailed instructions. Your typical work assignments may include the following.

As a Support Services Specialist GS-0342-7/9, your typical work assignments may include the following:
  • Analyzes program operations to ensure efficient and effective provision of support services throughout the Tax Division and its field office. Drafts statistics, charts, and reports for use by management regarding operations and efficient utilization of Division resources.
  • Supports facilities and administrative property through maintenance of property records, inventories of accountable property, maintenance of equipment and supplies, and identification and disposition of excess and real property.
  • Supports space acquisition, repair, and improvements of the Division's space management program for headquarters and field office. Reviews requests for space allocation, assignment, and alteration.
  • Assists with supporting the Division's security program in implementation of programs and procedures pertaining to physical security and contingency security planning.
  • Assists with safeguarding installations, facilities, or offices. Reviews requisitions and arranges the scheduling of projects to ensure satisfactory accomplishment of building services, alterations, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Communicates the Division's Safety and Health program regarding workplace injuries, illnesses, and deaths, as well as the suffering and financial hardship these events can cause for workers, their families, and employers.
Physical Demands: Work is sedentary. Some assignments involve significant walking, standing, bending, and arranging items such as chairs, desks, boxed materials, and other similar items.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Support Services Specialist at (GS-0342-7/9), you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below specific to this series and grade.

If you are a current government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade.

GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 or higher grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include:
  • 1) Assisting with support services functions for an organization in the areas of space management, physical security, or emergency planning; 2) Assisting in the development of charts, and reports for facility operations; and 3) Performing administrative, and analytical functions in an office setting.
OR

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability necessary to do the work of the position, such as: public administration, business administration, industrial engineering, industrial management, or other administrative or management fields. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 or higher grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include:
  • 1) Performing support services functions for an organization in the areas of space management, physical security, or emergency planning; 2) Drafting charts, spreadsheets, and reports for facility operations; 3) Performing administrative, and analytical functions in an office setting; and 4) Scheduling projects of building services, alterations, repairs, and maintenance
OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability necessary to do the work of the position, such as: public administration, business administration, industrial engineering, industrial management, or other administrative or management fields. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages
