Summary

This Internship will begin Summer 2021.

Internship opportunities are available within the Division of Insurance and Research (DIR). Interns will assist in projects related to enhancing the Corporation's programs for identifying, monitoring, and addressing existing and emerging aggregate risks to the Corporation's deposit insurance funds.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, gathers information and compiles data pertaining to the financial services industry, financial markets, FDIC-insured commercial banks and thrifts, as well as national, international and regional economic developments. Documents work.
  • Participates in program studies and analysis of financial, statistical and econometric models.
  • Organizes data for effective presentation.
  • Contributes to reports or working papers describing the results of economic research.
  • Responds to routing/factual requests for analyses for information from other divisions, agencies, state and local governments and bankers on economic and financial matters.

Qualifications

To be eligible for this program, applicants must: (1) be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree seeking program at a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis; (2) have an academic major in economics, public policy, or applied statistics; (3) have a minimum cumulative (overall) GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0; and (4) be in good academic standing.

Eligible applicants may qualify for grades based on education, experience, or a combination of education and experience. Education and experience requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.


Education

Completion of 2 academic years of graduate level education, or a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.

Qualifying Experience

CG-09: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07

Specialized experience is experience using economic principles and research methods to perform developmental research activities for program studies and analyses of the financial, statistical, and economic models; organizing data for effective presentation; and researching, gathering information, and compiling data pertaining to the financial services industry, financial markets, FDIC-insured commercial banks and thrifts, and national, international and regional economic developments.

This appointment may be extended if interns continues to meet all educational and pathways requirements.

The applicants selected will be offered an excepted appointment not-to-exceed 1 Year. After successful completion of the program requirements and based on FDIC's needs, the selectees may be non-competitively converted to a Term or Permanent position based upon an evaluation of performance, completion of at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program, and a skills assessment. However, service in the FDIC Internship Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive or excepted service.

  • Knowledge of economic principles and research methods sufficient to contribute to economic research.
