Explore your future and launch your career today.Successful candidates for this position will be a Staff Systems Engineer within the Tactical Space Division at Northrop Grumman Space Systems located in Dulles, VA. This position offers the opportunity to work on exciting space flight programs designed to further Human Exploration and Operations (HEO) beyond Low Earth Orbit.The Staff Systems Engineer is responsible for leading key Systems Engineering (SE) deliverables as part of an Integrated Team at various program levels ie Mission-, Element-, and Segment-level. The integrated team will incorporate the direction and results of a multi-disciplined engineering development of the space system architecture & elements. The Staff Systems Engineer is expected to develop advanced technological ideas which guides their development into a final product. This description applies to a number of open positions within the HEO Systems Engineering group within Northrop Grumman Space Systems Tactical Space Division.The Staff Systems Engineer is expected to work under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives. Assignments are often self- initiated. The Staff Systems Engineer is expected to determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Completed tasks are checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than by formal review of a superior. The Staff Systems Engineer is expected to represent the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects and to interact with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.Duties/Responsibilities:* Provide support to all or selected segments for the SE Integrated Team in a leadership capacity* Support in development of space vehicle and/or ground segment design and analysis efforts* Conceive and develop solutions to complex analytical, design, and test problems* Technical management of major bus subcontracted program elements* Support contractual space segment technical reviews* Responsible to write monthly status and technical performance reviews and reportsCandidate Must Possess the Following Skills:* Ability to develop requirements at multiple levels of designo Ability to translate program objectives and customer requirements into system requirementso Ability to complete functional decomposition of system requirementso Ability to develop requirements and preliminary design through a model based approacho Ability to allocate requirements among multiple elements of an integrated space system* Ability to develop and maintain a Concept of Operationso Ability to plan Assembly, Integration and Test of a spacecrafto Ability to develop Launch Procedure Conceptso Ability to develop Mission Operation Concepts* Ability to evaluate and adjust system requirements in order to best meet program objectiveso Ability to evaluate requirements through establishment of Technical Performance Metricso Ability to analyze and optimize design through Key Performance Metrics* Ability to develop verification and validation plans throughout the life cycle of the space design* Ability to develop and manage system interfaces to integrate multi-element systemso Demonstrate broad understanding of spacecraft design primarily though Mechanical, Electrical and Data Interface principles* Demonstrate a broad understanding of the space environment* Ability to support identification and mitigation of program level risks#novaspaceBasic Qualifications:* 14 years of experience with BS, 12 years with MS, 9 years with PhD. Must have a Bachelor's Degree or higher in an Engineering field with a preference for Aerospace* Applicable experience in a technical field with a preference of production or hardware development in the Aerospace industry* Proficiency in related engineering programs, Microsoft Office or equivalent document generation programs, Microsoft SharePoint or equivalent collaboration tool, Matlab or equivalent computational toolPreferred Qualifications:* Either self-experience or experience interfacing with team members in any of the following fields:o Command and Data Handling design and development Electrical design at a card, component or system level FPGA / Processor design and development Software design and developmento Power distribution system design and development Both High and Low Voltage Bus Designo Mechanical design and development Understanding of both launch loads as well as space docking loadso Thermal control system design and development Thermal control techniques in both a vacuum and/or ambient conditiono Automotive and motor or mechanism design and developmento Radio communication design and development* Proficient in the use of the requirement development and management tool DOORS* Experience in development and maintenance of interface control documents* Experience in avionics system testing and evaluation* Knowledge in any of the following areas: Launch Vehicles, System Safety, System Reliability, Contamination Control, EMI, Space Environments (Radiation, Surface Charging, etc.), or Human FactorsNorthrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
