Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a visual enterprise editor who would join Foreign to conceive and drive more timely, memorable and effective visual storytelling about what matters most around the world.

This is a new position, one intended to add another dimension to Foreign's leadership team. The visual enterprise editor will report directly to the foreign editor, who will be an active partner in elevating visually driven storytelling central to our international coverage. The editor will oversee some long-term projects but will give equal priority to quick-turn visual stories using formats that best fit the stories we are telling.

The role is intended for a highly accomplished, collaborative visual journalist with a track record of success working across departments to imagine and execute memorable integrated multimedia storytelling. Any candidate should have a strong background in visual reporting, with deep experience in video, photo, graphics or design, and should have at least five years of experience as an editor running a visual team. We have identified a strong internal candidate for this position but want to hear from others interested in this or related roles.

The visual enterprise editor will oversee a full-time visual enterprise reporter on Foreign. Foreign correspondents and breaking-news reporters will be frequent partners in these efforts, along with photo, video, graphics and audio editors whose responsibilities include international news. The visual enterprise editor will work closely with Foreign's regional editors, who will maintain primary responsibility for coverage from parts of the world they oversee. The visual enterprise editor will oversee all aspects of most visually driven projects, including text.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, the position will not be eligible for remote work.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

Candidates should upload a résumé, cover letter and three examples of outstanding, integrated multimedia work to our jobs portal by March 8. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. The cover letter should be addressed to Foreign Editor Douglas Jehl, Deputy Foreign Editor Eva Rodriguez, and Managing Editors Tracy Grant and Krissah Thompson.
