Job Title/Req: Electrical EngineerLocation: Fort Belvoir, VAJob Description: This position is for an electrical engineer at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) on the Reachback team. The successful candidate will have a strong grounding in the field of electrical engineering with a concentration in the effects of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic pulse generated from nuclear events on electrical systems such as power grids, telecommunications, and a wide range of special-purpose systems (medical devices, vehicles, aircraft/UAV, and others). The team provides operational, research and development, and training support along with subject matter expert advice and decision support to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) as part of its 24/7/365 Reachback contract. The successful candidate will be team-oriented and possess strong multi-tasking abilities. The ideal candidate will use applied knowledge to develop, integrate, test, verify, validate, and apply CBRNE software/scenarios based on experiments and predicted phenomena using theoretical and computational methods. Duties require working closely with other engineering groups to define the modeling objectives, obtain the necessary model inputs and outputs, and verify and validate results. The position also requires presenting modeling results and decision support aid to both internal and external customers in written reports and oral presentations. Reviewing the technical work of other engineers performing modeling projects is required.This position requires extensive team interaction, particularly with scientists with expertise in other aspects of chemical, biological, and nuclear disciplines, to create comprehensive analyses of CBRNE incidents. The successful candidate will provide general knowledge and provide subject matter expertise as an electrical engineer. Responsibilities also include evaluating the technical development of an antiterrorism, vulnerability assessment and protection-planning tool for use by the Department of Defense and responding to government and civilian inquiries agencies. The candidate will liaison with governmental agencies and research organizations. This position also requires the conduct of complex engineering and scientific analyses and special studies. Duties also entail the preparation of scientific reports, technical support to software engineers, and the performance of independent verification/validation of CBRNE effects modelsShift work is required.Job Requirements:Candidates must have at least an MS degree in electrical engineering, along with at least five years of relevant experience in their field. Professional Engineer Certification is preferred. Strong communication skills, both orally and verbally, technical presentation, teamwork mentality, graphic visualization, and Microsoft Office proficiency skills are required. Electrical engineering experience, preferably in EMI and EMP vulnerability assessment and system design hardening, is a factor. The preferred candidate will have experience in programs or activities associated with weapon effects on electrical systems, other weapons-of-mass-destruction, demolition sciences. Working knowledge and experience in Vulnerability Assessment tools a plus (VAPO and IMEA software tools). Although not explicitly required (though desirable), candidates with experience in areas related to Combating WMD threats (primarily through modeling and simulation and/or test experience)and a working knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) tools in an operational environment would be a plus. The successful applicant must be a US citizen and be able to obtain and/or maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance. Strong oral and verbal communication skills, technical presentation, teamwork mentality, graphic visualization, and Microsoft Office proficiency skills are required.
