Job Description: Electrical Power and Propulsion Engineer Our world-class expertise in connecting space, airborne, ground and sea-based platforms with secure, real-time data drives our communications business in addressing the heightened global demand for advanced solutions. We are searching for an Electrical Power and Propulsion Systems Engineer at our C5 Systems - Herndon, VA location. Essential Functions: Design support and integration of the Electric Power and Propulsion Systems Perform / support studies and analyses relevant to electric power and propulsion systems (eg harmonic analyses; electrical system transient analysis). Perform trade studies relating to power & propulsion systems Assist in design activities (integration & operation) relating to motors, variable frequency drives, generators, transformers, switchboards, power management systems) Assist in preparation of RFI & RFP responses relating to integrated power & propulsion systems Review and comment of Propulsion System Suppliers Technical Data, Drawings, and Technical Procedures. Write, review and provide inputs to equipment Test and Trials Documentation. . General Power and Propulsion Engineering support to L3Harris. Support inspection & test of Propulsion system installation including: Equipment installation Equipment Light-off Trials and Acceptance Trials support Additionally, Electrical Power and Propulsion Systems Engineer shall perform the following tasks for systems indicated; Support the effort as necessary in the review and refinement of L3Harris developed propulsion equipment performance. Support Propulsion system design reviews Support FMM with propulsion equipment supplier visits. Function as the L3Harris point of contact for technical issues related to propulsion systems and ship integration. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and or significant project and system architecture experience in relevant areas to L3Harris current and future Naval business strategy. 6+ years prior satisfactory experience as a propulsion engineer in shipyards interfacing with engineers and management at all levels. Navy or related military experience is a strong desire. Supervisory experience and the ability to mentor, train and motivate people to excel individually and as a team in a fast paced, context switching work environment is preferable. Skills & Knowledge Required: Expert knowledge of ships propulsion systems and Hull Machinery &Electrical (HM&E) design components of naval ship systems. Electrical and mechanical integration experience for military environments requiring environmental qualifications. Working knowledge of MIL-SPECS, DOD regulations and practices, Classification society rules & regulations, Job Cost accounting, and Critical Path management systems. Familiarity with spreadsheet programs and their use. Well versed in Microsoft project management tools, CAD, VISIO and Microsoft office applications.
