Is directed and coached by supervisor and more senior technicians. Performs duties in areas such as environmental test facility operations, electrical and mechanical maintenance, cleanroom operations, thermal blanket fabrication, mechanical and electrical integration, plating and machining operations, metal cutting, and recertification of lifting and handling devices and pressure vessel systems. Depending on area of assignment, assists senior technicians and engineers in: performing spacecraft environmental tests; repairing and maintaining equipment, facilities and systems; assembly, integration and handling of ground support equipment; testing and inspection of lifting device equipment and pressure vessels; operating conventional and CNC equipment and machine tools to fabricate flight and non-flight hardware components; fabrication of flight and test thermal blankets; or other duties associated with area of assignment. Displays an aptitude for learning basic machining, metal cutting, and use of hand tools and precision measuring devices. Assists in the assembly and testing of flight and non-flight hardware parts, assemblies, and GSE from provided drawings and documentation. Will work with engineers and other technicians in the assembly, integration, lifting, transport, and launch support of spaceflight components, hardware, instruments and spacecraft. Acquires and maintains certifications that are applicable; such as overhead crane operation, electrostatic discharge control (ESD), mobile aerial platform training, etc. Basic Qualifications: Minimum of 1 years of direct experience working with flight hardware and/or mechanical systems OR has demonstrated a satisfactory history of working with precision hardware and components of similar complexity or sensitivity as determined by management (military or technical school training is highly desired). Must be capable of passing required physical examinations and successfully completing assigned training or other required training Excellent ability to work in confined spaces, cleanrooms, or other specialty environments for an extended period of time. Preferred Qualifications: Possesses fundamental understanding of machine shop practices and the use of tools such as band saws, grinders, and drill presses. Experience with more complicated machine shop tools such as a lathe or mill is highly desirable. Experience providing fabrication support as well as working across other disciplines or systems such as electrical, optical, cryogenics, environmental test, etc. is a plus. Experience working with assembly and part drawings is highly desirable. Knowledge of engineering terms and ability to operate computers is required. Fundamental understanding of the operation and maintenance of large hazardous research aerospace test facilities is a plus. Must possess Powered Industrial Truck Operator (PIT) Certification, Mobile Aerial Platform operator (MAP) Certification, and Crane/Hoist/Winch/Rigger Certification, OR, is able to obtain said certifications.
