The Platemaker Apprentice (Intaglio), upon completion of the Platemaker Apprentice Program, performs all duties associated with the manufacturing of intaglio printing plates. within the Plate Manufacturing Branch of the Office of Engraving.

Responsibilities

The following are the duties of this position at the WE-3 Journeyman Platemaker. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

* This is a five year apprenticeship.*

- Prepare and maintain solutions, tanks, filters, pumps, anodes and regulating devices and performs daily routine monitoring of plating tank parameters such as temperature and ph, as prescribed by the supervisor, for electroplating nickel and chrome, electro-cleaning and de-plating.

- Use appropriate blueprints, drawings, precision scales and various hand tools for layout of production currency plates and other miscellaneous engraved products.

- Perform various mechanical operations Involved in the making of electroformed sheet into & finished plate for printing. Physically separates the raw plates with their razor sharp edges from their respective masters or altos when using the plating frames.

- Electroform miscellaneous plates or dies of various sizes to thickness greater than done in normal production operations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.

- Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
- Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis.
- Weekend work and overtime, if applicable, will be scheduled when needed based on production requirements as determined by Management.
