Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist clinically with Women Veterans Call Center inquires,
  • Assist in developing/design of gender-specific health care needs
  • Assist and advocate with Chief, PC with recruitment of WH Providers

Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities of the Hampton Women Veteran Program (HWVP):

1. Provides a full range of services including assessment and using the most appropriate
techniques in providing quality care in their subspecialty.
2. Perform appropriate evaluations, diagnosis and treatment of patients.
3. Provide a full range of therapeutic interventions in units/programs in the Hampton VA
Medical Center to which they are assigned and has clinical privileges to practice
including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management.
4. Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and
collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in a manner that enhances
coordination of comprehensive patient care.
5. Orders diagnostic tests and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings and
makes appropriate treatment decisions.
6. Ensures that the practice of medicine is consistent with the Joint Commission,
Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), VA policies and
procedures, clinical · practice guidelines, VISN standards, national statues ai:,d
regulations, medical record documentation, mandatory continuing education, and HIPPA
policies.
7. Specific tasks are itemized in each physicians Credentialing and Privileging package.
8. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Chief of Primary Care Services.
9. Involved in performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives.
10. Provides leadership guidance and consultation to staff on units to which assigned.
11. Is involved in the supervision and teaching of house staff and other trainees assigned to
unit as appropriate.
12. Serves as a consultant to other medical center staff and trainees and assist in
implementation of treatment plan as appropriate regarding their patients.
13. Is responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by
the Medical Center or healthcare system, as appropriate.
14. Plans and oversees the completion of personal research programs, designed to provide
information regarding program planning and relevant treatment approaches.

Supervisory Controls:
Physicians are responsible to the Chief Primary Care Service

Champion:The Women Health Medical Director( WHMD) is also responsible for:
1. Serving as a clinical leader for women's health and functioning as the clinical subject matter expert for women's health issues in the health care system.
2. Working closely with the WVPM, forming the foundation of the women's health program.
3. Collaborating with primary care leadership and participating in all primary care leadership meetings at the health care system level.
4. Working with other clinical services such as specialty care, surgery, radiology, mental health, laboratory, and emergency department to ensure appropriate clinical services are available to women Veterans.
5. Collaborating with WVPM and facility leadership and primary care leadership to determine the appropriate model of care for Comprehensive Women's Health Care at all sites of care at the health care system, including the VA medical facility and CBOC's.
6. Collaborating with the WVPM, VA medical facility leadership and primary care leadership to ensure that women Veterans are offered and assigned to WH-PCPs.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • License: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency training: Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.

Physical Requirements: Physician applicants must have the mental and physical ability to perform core privileges required by the specialty position in addition to any specialty privileges requested. Position requires walking, bending, stooping, light lifting (under 15 pounds), light carrying (under 15 pounds), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, both legs required, walking (2 hours), standing (2 hours), ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, both eyes required, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, ability to distinguish shades of colors, Hearing (aid may be permitted), working alone, working closely with others, and protracted or irregular hours of work.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
