The position is located in the Human Resources Division of the Office of the Executive Director and reports to the Employee Acquisitions and Operations Branch Chief. The Commission's entry-level recruiting and staffing team members develop strong relationships at colleges and universities that provide a quality applicant pool. Additionally the team is responsible for the on-boarding, orientation, and development of interns and new employees as well as the hiring of all Commission employees. The Student Trainee (Human Resources- Recruitment) works with managers throughout the Commission to ensure the success of the summer internship program and meet the goal of converting 40 percent of interns to full time employees after graduation. The Student Trainee (Human Resources- Recruitment) is responsible for providing administrative support on FERC's entry-level recruitment program events and coordinating workshops for FERC's summer internship program.

At time of application, applicant must submit proof of current enrollment in a degree-seeking program. If selected, applicant must provide proof of continuing education through either the Summer or Fall 2021 semesters. To meet the definition of a student, applicants must be enrolled at least half-time in a degree-seeking program.

This internship may be extended beyond the summer of 2021. These positions are temporary, they may be converted to a full time, career-conditional position. Any conversions to full time or career-conditional status is neither implied nor guaranteed.

Major duties of the Student Trainee:
  • Leads, plans and coordinates events for summer intern program
  • Coordinates and responds to requests from Program Offices, Commission leadership and Interns regarding summer intern program
  • Coordinates with speakers, universities and other stakeholders regarding intern program and assists with communication regarding entry-level recruitment program
  • Utilizes technical skills to ensure data is organized for easy retrieval
  • Collaborates with employees in the Employee Acquisition and Operations branch on special projects

Qualifications

GS-4: To be eligible for internship positions at time of appointment candidates must meet the qualification requirements: Candidates must have one full year of general experience at the lower grade level (GS-03) or equivalent education. General experience is described as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.

Education Requirement:

Candidates must meet the OPM Educational Requirement for (Student Trainee):Two full academic years of post-high school study OR possess an associate's degree AND must be enrolled in an accredited college or university.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, FERC is currently operating in a 100% remote environment, which includes this position. Typically, this position is located at HQ in Washington, DC. When FERC's operating status changes, this position will be expected to report to the office, as per FERC policy.
