Financial Aid Specialist Position ID Number: 1736 Posted Date: Jan 22, 2021 Job Category: Staff Department: Financial Aid - HFIN Position Status: Full-Time Staff Salary Range: $49,803 - $62,254 Position Summary: The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for providing services and information regarding student financial aid and veterans education benefits services at any of the AACC campuses. The specialist is responsible for processing financial aid files, to include verification and awarding, and working on any one of a number of individual programs and/or projects related to the administration of federal, state, institutional or private student aid and veterans education benefits. Daily supervisor of this position is provided by the Assistant Director. Only individuals who are residents of Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia are eligible for employment at the college. You must reside in one of these states prior to a determined start date. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Maintain current knowledge of financial aid regulations in order to counsel current and prospective students (and parents, if applicable) regarding eligibility requirements, application procedures and processing of federal, state, institutional and private student financial aid and veterans education benefits, including payment and billing questions, financial aid holds, book voucher use, and disbursements. Provide counseling in person at the counter or in an office setting and by phone, as directed. Work with other campus offices to ensure timely and accurate delivery of service. Perform verification, professional judgment and dependency overrides of aid applications and mark student files as ready to package. Work with a Coordinator, Assistant Director or Director on one or more of the following programs/projects: outreach events and student success measures, student employment, satisfactory academic progress, unusual enrollment history, institutional/state/private grants and scholarships, web content updates, consortium agreements, federal grants and loans, and veterans education benefits. Other duties as assigned, including attendance at local training events. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher Minimum of two years of relevant financial aid experience Working knowledge of Title IV program eligibility and processing. Knowledge of automated data processing systems. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to make public presentations. Demonstrated ability to work collegially with a culturally diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on a daily basis Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the office.
