Position SummaryThe Principal Scientist supports the F-35 Lightning II JPO's mission to develop and deploy the F-35 Air System by providing research, technical studies, and analysis on weapons systems and platforms including shipboard and airborne radar and electronic systems, electrical generation systems, weapons control systems, engines, aircraft launch and recovery equipment, support equipment, and other complex machinery.A' The Principal Scientist works directly with senior personnel, program managers, and external organizations in the planning, oversight, execution, and evaluation of multiple complex technical and scientific solutions. Responsibilities Conducts research, technical analysis, and solution alternatives for weapons systems and platforms as well as avionic and shipboard systems that affect the system's entire life cycle, with a focus on affordability.A' Develops approaches that resolve technical or supportability deficiencies affecting the weapons system functionality.A' Technical efforts include; developing and determining deficiency indicators; defining characteristics and the cause of such deficiencies; determining the impact on the affected product; identifying, assessing, and testing alternative solutions; recommending the preferred solution; designing, integrating, and validating the solution. Prepares and delivers presentations to colleagues, subordinates, and government representatives.A' Assures the proper use of current or requested programming, testing and documentation techniques and produces and/or reviews substantive and/or complex documentation reflecting detailed knowledge of task areas. Develops and implements new research objectives, establish project priorities, define methods of approach and execute the study.A' Provides scientific conclusions and interpretations; employ innovative use of scientific research concepts, principles, and practices; and contribute to advanced methods and techniques on Technical Area Tasks. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field. Master's degrees from an accredited institution in Information Systems, Computer Science or Computer Engineering is preferred. Will be an experienced scientist in one of the technical, science or analytical fields, who has gained substantial experience in, but not limited to, supporting large projects related to the individual subject matter expertise.A' Will have 10-years' relevant experience; with four years of applicable research experience. Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, experience in supporting large projects related to the individual's subject matter expertise.
