Job Announcement

Works as part of the Zoning Administration Division, Department of Planning and Development. Reviews and approves sign, noise waiver and other administrative permit applications in accordance with zoning ordinance provisions. Conducts research on the application property, determining the current zoning status, reviewing maps, files and planning and zoning databases. Communicates with applicants to correct application deficiencies. Provides verbal and written responses to permit application and Zoning Ordinance questions received from the public, other county and/or state agencies, or elected officials. Conducts zoning inspections and prepares inspection reports at the request of county staff. Reads and interprets technical documents, such as sign permit graphics, site plans, subdivision plans, and plats. Serves as a zoning resource planner. Provides review comments to other planners within the department regarding proposed comprehensive sign plans, photometric plans, special permit or special exception applications, noise studies, or other assignments involving land use, zoning, environmental planning, public facilities, and/or information technology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited, four-year college or university in a planning-related field.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional experience in review and approval of planning, zoning, building, site, or other types of permits. Experience using a personal computer, word processing applications, and Geographical Information System (GIS) based programs. Strong abilities in written and oral communications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position is primarily sedentary; however, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending and carrying of items up to 10 pounds in weight. Work requires the ability to operate keyboard-driven equipment and make occasional site visits. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
