Job Description

The Washington Post Universal Desk is seeking a night homepage editor.

This candidate will participate in the nightly programming and maintenance of the homepage and classic app. We are looking for an experienced journalist with excellent news judgment. Proven Web production skills and an ability to write muscular as well as conversational headlines are a must. A successful candidate will be a good multitasker, able to keep a close eye on analytics and the competition. This candidate should understand mobile technology and its audience and bring ideas about how to best present content in that space.

This position requires the editor to work closely with many other newsroom departments, including photos, videos and graphics, flagging them to breaking news for all digital platforms.

Coordination with designers is required for visually engaging homepage displays, so an eye for presentation - for daily and long-range projects - and the technical skills to bring it to life are a plus.

This position involves nights, including one weekend night, and occasional overnight work. This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

Interested applicants should send a résumé, cover letter outlining their strengths for the role and three clips (as PDFs), to our jobs portal by March 12. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. The cover letter should be addressed to Universal News Desk Editor Kenisha Malcolm, Deputy Universal News Desk Editor Emily Tsao and Managing Editors Tracy Grant and Krissah Thompson.
