The Applications Systems Analyst II will support the US Postal Service in its Delivery & Mobile Technology organization. The Delivery & Mobile Technology group manages a variety of applications with Analysts, Engineers, Developers, Testers, and others, in support of its mission in a national scale. Essential Functions: Applications Systems Analyst Reviews, analyzes, and modifies programming systems including encoding, testing, debugging and installing to support an organization's application systems. Consults with users to identify current operating procedures and to clarify program objectives. May be expected to write documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, and corrections. Have a basic understanding of computer networks. Ability to read and understand actual code is desirable, such as a high-level language C or C++. Writes manual for users to describe installation and operating procedures. Familiar with relational databases and client-server concepts. Systems Analyst skills needed to perform technical support for package sorter projects. This will involve understanding USPS operational needs with package sortation, understanding technical requirements, planning, sorter controls analysis, testing, installing in a live mail post office environment, assisting with deployment, and performing technical support. Candidate will provide advice to developers on effective system testing techniques and test case scenarios. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a project leader or manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Familiarity with US Postal operations concepts, practices, and procedures is a plus. Travel is required. Occasional travel to postal facilities and supplier facilities are typical. Job Requirements: Education and Experience: Bachelor s Degree in area of specialty. 2-5 years of experience in the field or related area. Experienced with installing equipment, field modifications, troubleshooting networks and data communications, and hands-on testing.
