You will serve as a Transportation Assistant (Counselor) in the Navy Household Goods/Personal Property Shipping Office (HHG/PPSO) Store Front Section of NAVSUP FLC NORVA GF.

Responsibilities

  • You will provide entitlement counseling and quality control services to military and civilian service members incident to movement of household goods.
  • You will communicate with members/employees, their dependents or agents to elicit their shipment needs and services desired.
  • You will review orders, and determine the extent of entitlements and eligibility for the shipment, drayage or temporary/non-temporary storage of household goods at government expense.
  • You will explain shipment and storage options, excess costs, special procedures for shipments under various types of orders, and approximate transit time.
  • You will review and finalize DD Form 1299, Application for Shipment and/or Storage of Personal Property, for member/employee signature and compiles all required documents for shipment.
  • You will conduct inspections; the majority of inspections will be conducted by telephone; inspections will occasionally be performed at the member/employee?s residence or at the Transportation Service Provider's (TSP) warehouse.
  • You will respond to all member/employee and TSP requests for information/assistance

Qualifications

For GS-06:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing Transportation Assistant (Counselor) work requiring a knowledge and application of standardized transportation policies, regulations, procedures, and operations to perform a full range of customer facing transportation support assignments and resolve a wide range of problems in connection with the movement of personal property (i.e. household goods, unaccompanied baggage, boats and/or privately owned vehicles POV's) by Government or commercial means. Examples of specialized experience may include the following: 1) Reviewing orders and determine the extent of entitlements and eligibility for the shipment; 2) Explaining shipment and storage options, excess costs, special procedures for shipments under various types of orders; 3) Assisting in performing a wide range of personal property shipment management functions including household goods entitlements, personal property counseling, inbound and outbound shipment management, temporary storage and non-temporary storage; and 4) Utilizing automated information systems to input a range of standard information or track shipments.

For GS-05:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing Transportation Assistant work requiring a knowledge and application of standardized transportation policies, regulations, procedures, and methodologies in order to assist with customer transportation support assignments and related movements of personal property. Examples of specialized experience may include the following: 1) Assisting in reviewing orders and determine the extent of entitlements and eligibility for the shipment; 2) Assisting in performing personal property shipment management functions such as household goods entitlements, personal property counseling, inbound and outbound shipment management, temporary storage and non-temporary storage; and 3) Utilizing automated information systems to input a range of standard information or track shipments.
