Summary

This position is located in the Naval Support Activity, Regional Support Services Program, Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of duties necessary in support of the impound lot and auction programs.

Responsibilities

The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of duties necessary in support of the impound lot and auction programs. Answers telephone responding to patron questions pertaining to policies, facility availability, hours of operation, eligibility requirements, and other similar non-technical inquiries. Responsible for contacting all owner/lien holders in a timely manner, documenting both personal and phone conversations in reference to the impounded vehicle. Maintains standardized forms and documents used at the Impound Lot for the processing of stored vehicles. Maintains an established file system in a timely and accurate manner. Initiates changes necessary to enhance data and document storage and retrieval. Prepares a variety of notices, memorandums, and policy statements as assigned. Operates a cashier register, collecting fees and providing correct change. At end of shift, completes the Daily Activity Report (DAR), verifying the amount of money collected and dropping the cashier bag into the drop safe. Checks vehicles in that have been towed to the Impound Lot, recording vehicle identification number, year, make, model, and condition of vehicle and assigning slot number. Initiates file for the towed vehicle. Releases vehicles from the impound lot to owner/lien holder, calculating towing and storage fees owed. Checks owner/lien holder identification, vehicle registration, collects fees owed and admits owner/lien holder into impound lot to retrieve vehicle. Assists in the auction of abandoned vehicles and serves as a member of the Privately Owned Vehicle (POV) Disposal board. Inventories and cleans vehicles prior to auction, prepares proper documentation for disposal of personal effects and for sale of vehicles. Serves as auction cashier. Performs general housekeeping to ensure interior spaces are in a clean, neat, and orderly state at all times. This includes sweeping and mopping floors, dusting, and cleaning of office spaces. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

Must be skilled in positive customer service techniques, tact and good jusdgement to deal with potentially hostile patrons. Must possess basic grammer and math skills to prepare a variety of records and reports, inventory accountability, compute charges, and make change accurately. Must be familiar with document filing and retrieval systems, and have the ability to accurately maintain filing systems. Must have the ability to perform recurring tasks without close supervision.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Additional information

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license, as travel between impound and auction lots to perform vehicle inspections and movement of vehicles is required.

Salary is dependent on experience and/or education.

Some positions have special requirements. Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period.
