Summary

This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, National Archives and Records Administration. As a/an DIGITAL IMAGING SPECIALIST, you will be serving as a Digital Imaging Specialist in the Digitization Division within Research Services (R) at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).

Responsibilities

As a DIGITAL IMAGING SPECIALIST, you will:

- Work with original archival records such as textual documents, photographs, maps and technical drawings, and historical artifacts.

- Reformat original archival records and photographic intermediates using digital imaging technology to produce image files and various hard copy output such as facsimile prints on paper.

- Work on a range of projects, including routine digitization, special requests, and complex and difficult projects.

- Create administrative and technical metadata and may, in some situations, create descriptive metadata in accordance with archival standards.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service . One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.   • Qualifications

    You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

    A portfolio containing 10-14 images of two-dimensional and three-dimensional samples of work, will be requested during the interview process.

    Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

    - Developing scanning workflows for either access or preservation-oriented digitization projects; AND
    - Using high-resolution overhead capture systems (e.g. Hasselblad, Phase One, or other high end camera systems).; AND
    - Using color management software to produce custom profiles to calibrate scanners, digital cameras and printers; AND
    - Managing and troubleshooting digital lab equipment (e.g. automated document scanners, digital copy camera systems, and film scanners etc.)

    OR

    You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related

    OR

    You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. A combination of education and experience. Only graduate level education in excess of 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours), may be used to combine education and experience. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
