Duties
Summary
The Office of the Clerk for U.S. House of Representatives is seeking a dynamic and customer focused Senior Database Administrator to join our team that is dedicated to building and supporting systems critical to the U.S. House of Representatives and used by Members of Congress, Committees, other internal agencies, and the public. This position will focus on providing design, implementation, optimization, security and maintenance of a wide range of on-prem and cloud-based database servers.

Responsibilities
• Plans, installs and configures database servers. Determine standards for database server configurations.
• Performs routine database server upgrades and maintenance.
• Performs the following DBA activities:
o storage management and optimization
o database backup and recovery
o system health and performance monitoring
o database hardening
o security configuration
o high availability design
• Provides database design, query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning support.
• Plans, designs, implements, maintains, and performs periodic reevaluation of data integrity and data security measures.
• Works closely with engineering and operations staff to design and implement secure, available and performant data services supporting a variety of applications.
• Stays current with database technology and best practices. Participates in strategic discussions and provides recommendation on database technology and related tools.

Expert-level knowledge of database administration with experience in multiple database systems. Appropriate experience, education and training to fulfill all duties as a Senior DBA.
Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactorily completing a criminal history records check. Employment with the U.S. House of Representatives is at-will. EOE.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
Seven or more years of experience in database administration while working in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with two of the following database technologies: MSSQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL and Oracle.
• Experience with Elastic Database is a plus.
• Experience with Linux Admin is a plus.
• Experience with managed database services such as Azure Database or Amazon RDS is a plus, along with experience managing databases on cloud infrastructure.
• A strong desire to research and study new emerging database technologies.
• Strong communication (written and verbal) skills.
• Self-motivated.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
