Job Description Key Duties and Responsibilities The District Manager-in-Training is responsible for working with the District Manager to manage all facets of the assigned area: Effectively lead and grow all facets of the business (people, sales, product and profit); ensure alignment with company strategies and values Ensure that priorities are set for stores to achieve high Team Member calibration and customer traction scores, and exceed financial targets Assist in directing compliance of managers and Team Members with established company policies, procedures, and standards such as safekeeping of company funds, property and personnel and grievance practices, and safety and environmental codes and ordinances Assist in maintaining a customer-friendly, quality image of assigned facilities Review and analyze operational records and reports of General Managers to project sales and to determine store profitability and other business related measures to strengthen and sharpen business acumen Analyze marketing potential of new and existing store locations and recommend additional sites or deletion of existing stores Select, train, develop and evaluate General Manager performance in a manner that is inspiring, results in high performance and low turnover of successful General Managers Ensure management team values diversity and supports a fair and respectful environment for both Team Members and customers; including high performance, recognition, candid feedback and rewards for performance exists on their team Use Regional Staff members within assigned Region as resources to broaden education in the areas of Human resources, Risk Services, Commercial Sales, and Training Demonstrate an eagerness to be a team player and assist in other functions as assigned by Region and Area leaders and as needed Essential Job Skills Necessary for Success as a District Manager-in-Training Working knowledge of automotive systems preferred Speak and write English (Spanish a plus); communicate effectively and build strong relationships with customers, peers and upper management Use Microsoft software effectively (Word, Excel required PowerPoint preferred) Use basic math accurately: add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals Perform calculations such as Gross Margin and understand financial documents, such as Profit and Loss Statements (P&L), invoices, etc. Ability to fully understand all facets of the business and excel in an integrated operating model (including DIY, Commercial, PDQ and Hub operations) Define problems, collect information, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and effectively resolve issues independently Think strategically, analyze issues and options, and effectively manage and facilitate change Effectively delegate and supervise projects to ensure timely and quality execution Ability to work an assortment of days, evenings, and weekends as needed Prior Experiences that Set a District Manager-in-Training up for Success 3-5 years experience managing a team of 10 20 General Managers who supervise from 10 30 Team Members in a fast-paced and highly dynamic retail environment Proven track record in meeting sales and gross margin targets in a multi-unit environment Successful experience managing profitability; proven financial and business acumen Education High school diploma or general education degree (GED), Bachelor s degree in business or a related area preferred Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must have a valid driver's license ASE certification preferred, but not required Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
