Position Overview The Controller for Avantus Federal will assist the CFO in setting the strategic plans and priorities, as well as implementing all operational activities of the Accounting and Finance function for Avantus Federal. The successful candidate must possess both proven technical capabilities as well as the ability to work effectively with individuals across the organization. Skills include: strong management, communication, and documentation skills including collaboration with executive leadership, managers, and support personnel across Avantus Federal's business units. The candidate must have the ability to establish, document, discuss, and present, financial guidance for the Company. Responsibilities The Controller, in collaboration with the CFO, shall oversee material aspects of the Company's financial function by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing the Company's policies and procedures, including internal control procedures. The Controller will also monitor and ensure good financial condition of the Company by conducting periodic reviews and analysis. Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but not limited to, the following: * Ensure accurate and timely monthly and year-end closes * Assist the CFO management of the banking and treasury relationship * Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structure * Direct and oversee the preparation of financial analyses including trending, variance analysis, and interpretations based on the results * Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy * Safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments * Develop, improve and issue timely monthly financial records for Management * Responsible for compliance to applicable Government regulations including FAR, CAS and DCAA requirements, including interfacing with government agencies such as the DCAA, as needed * Coordinates with the Program Control Team, Business Analysts, to ensure timely and accurate project analysis and reporting * Oversees and manages the year-end audit and prepares supporting schedules required by outside auditors and tax accountants * Supports the other financial audits or inquiries by DCAA or other third parties and prepares supporting schedules as needed * External Reporting - assist to ensure that all outside reporting is submitted accurately and timely * Respond to senior management requests related to special projects and reporting requests * Manages the Accounting team including its overall direction, coordination, and evaluation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company policies and applicable laws * Interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, training, developing, directing work, rewarding, disciplining employees, performance reviews, and addressing complaints and resolving problems * Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions Maintains good communication and collaboration with operations, sales, project management, other stakeholders. * Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential * Drives the Accounting integration of acquired companies * The successful candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate Required Qualifications * The Controller must be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimum supervision and must be able to interact with program staff and senior management * Bachelor's degree or post-graduate degree in accounting or finance * Ideal candidate has 7+ years of progressive work experience in Finance and Accounting field including government contracting experience * A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in good standing is required * Demonstrated experience with Federal Government regulations, contracts and billings, and deep knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles required * Strong knowledge of FAR/CAS as well as Service Contract Act requirements * Experience in revenue recognition with products and services revenue (ASC 606) * Excellent computer skills; experience in Deltek CostPoint accounting software (Required), UltiPro (Ultimate Software) HRIS/payroll software (Preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite (Required) * Ability to handle a wide range of accounting operations and willingness to perform hands-on work is essential * Excellent written and oral communication skills required Company EEO Statement Avantus Federal is an equal opportunity employer and Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA) federal contractor.
