Overview: The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) operates three Federally Funded Research and Development Centers supporting federal decision making - two serving the Department of Defense (DoD) and one serving the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President of the United States. IDA assists the United States Government in addressing important national security issues, particularly those requiring scientific and technical expertise. This position is in IDA's Intelligence Analyses Division (IAD). IAD supports the Department of Defense, the Intelligence Community, and other US Government Agencies by providing analyses of critical intelligence and national security issues. IAD is involved in analytical activities across a wide range of cross disciplinary national security and intelligence matters including: programmatic assessments; technical evaluations; social science research; strategic analysis; physical, cyber, and human threat evaluations; and open source exploitation. Short and long term sponsoring arrangements with US Government entities provide a steady stream of intellectual challenges for the IAD staff in the furtherance of national objectives and for identifying opportunities to improve public sector performance. Responsibilities: Research Analysts are highly qualified, self-starting professionals sought to advise DoD officials and selected audiences on challenges of national and global significance. Research Analysts are expected to develop the broader context (the big picture) for problems facing mid-level managers, senior executives, and military officials across the Federal government. Research Analysts are required to identify key components, while creating and executing appropriate analytic methodologies, and clearly conveying their findings to specialists and non-specialists alike. The position requires strong communication skills, and the candidate must be able to speak and write effectively, think analytically, and work independently. Qualifications: An advanced degree in national security strategy, military operations research, economics, engineering, quantitative political science, or methodologically similar disciplines with at least 25 years of relevant experience are required. Intelligence experience in the military at a leadership level is preferred. Experience in service and/or joint intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, including remotely piloted aircraft, is preferred. Demonstrated ability to identify sources, assemble, and organize large, complex data sets for which subsequent quantitative and qualitative analyses is desired. Candidates are required to have an active TS clearance and recent SCI access (within the last 6 months)/current SSBI.
