Westat's research, technical, and administrative staff of more than 2,000 is located at our headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, DC.

Westat has a newly created role for a General Ledger Accountant in our Corporate Accounting department. This role reports directly to the Corporate Accounting Manager and is based in Rockville, Maryland.  In this role, you will be a collaborator with your internal clients, management and peers.  You will use your demonstrated knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and experience with general ledger account reconciliations to assist with various projects, varying from assistance with internal financial reporting and maintenance of financial records. This role will leverage your analytical skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task and prioritize work.

Job Responsibilities:
• Preparing and submission of weekly/monthly ad-hoc reports; aiding in the preparation of monthly/quarterly/yearly closings.
• Completing day to day accounting, closes and internal financial reporting, engaging Accounting management as needed. This will include the posting and processing of journal entries.
• Reviewing and verifying the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
• Assisting with the preparation of month-end and year-end closes (including preparing journal entries, accruals, and amortization schedules).
• Compiling and analyzing financial information to prepare entries to general ledger accounts.
• Maintaining general ledger account information within the accounting system.
• Assisting the Controller with requests made by external auditors; gathers, prepares, and reviews necessary account information and documents requested in the normal course of an audit. 
• Performs other additional special projects and ad-hoc tasks as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• A minimum of five years progressive accounting experience.
• Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Able to work with large data sets and have the resources and knowledge to manipulate and structure data that is meaningful and useful. 

Preferred Qualifications:
• CPA 
• Public Accounting experience.
• Government contracting industry experience.
• Project-oriented accounting experience, Deltek Costpoint preferred.
• Experience working with a mid-size civilian agency government contractor.
