Responsibilities

As the Chief of Staff within the Office of the Director, some of your specific duties will include:
  • Serves as a senior aide to the the Director of USGS.
  • Performs a wide range of assignments intended to extend the effectiveness of the Director's Office(DO) and to facilitate program planning, coordination, execution and integration at the senior executive level.
  • Leads initiatives on behalf of the DO to improve organizational function and design across all bureau functional areas to ensure efficient and effective use of human and financial resources.
  • Ensures administrative and policy issues are addressed holistically and provides the technical expertise to address strategies as identified for all USGS mission areas.
  • Identifies policies and practices needed to enhance quality of Services and products. Serves as an advisor to the Director on strategic and analytical committees and task forces needed by the bureau to develop mid-to-long range plans and to identify and develop preliminary long-term administrative decisions which will have a major impact on programmatic issues.

    Qualifications

    For GS-15 :

    Applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-15 level:

    Possess one year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service.

    Examples of GS-14 level work may include: formulating complex programs; conducting complex studies on assembly analysis, and interpretation of data; planning, organizing, completing several complex project assignments requiring coordination of work; and utilizing administrative/financial data systems.
    You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
