Summary

This position serves as a Food Service Worker performing duties that requires knowledge of food service operations and advanced food delivery systems including food preparation, food portioning, tray assembly, delivery and pick up, washing and sanitation at the Washington, DC VA Medical Center under Nutrition and Food Service.

Responsibilities

Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following:
  • Works on tray line as assembler, beverage server, or loader at meal times, or as server on milk/juice station
  • Sets-up and replenishes serving stations with supplied, food and beverages, dishware, and serving utensils; maintains cleanliness of assigned area
  • Transports tray delivery carts to wards and serves patients'; collects patient trays after meals
  • Washes, peels, slices, dices, shreds, and cuts fruit and vegetables by hand or machine for cooking and salad preparation; assembles and plates cold food and beverage items of correct portioning
  • Performs general and heavy cleaning duties in kitchen (i.e., Dish machine area, pot and pan area, storerooms, refrigerators/freezers, dining rooms, trash/heavy garbage cans) using appropriate cleaning agents and cleaning equipment; and dismantles and cleans cleaning equipment
  • Transports, unloads and rotates stock
  • Performs other related duties assigned
Work Schedule: Full-Time, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, rotating weekends and holidays

Physical Requirements: This position requires moderate to heavy physical effort. The employee is subject to continuous standing/walking; frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. Frequent lifting of objects weighing up 40 pounds unassisted and occasional lifting of objects weighing more than 40 pounds assisted is required. It also requires pushing loaded tray carts weighting up to 900 pounds.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
