Responsibilities

The incumbent:
  • Prepares statements of work, construction drawings, specifications and detailed cost estimates for electrical systems in new construction, remodeling, repair, and demolition projects.
  • Prepares statements of work and specifications for maintenance service contracts, time and material contracts, service agreements and construction projects.
  • Analyzes bids and aids in the preparation of bid recommendations.
  • Answers questions and provides information to bidders. Prepares supplements to existing job orders. Acts as the contracting officer's representative (COR) as directed.
  • Performs value engineering and cost effectiveness studies.
  • Evaluates customer requests regarding cost estimate, scope of the job, code compliance, time frames and necessity of work.
  • Through inspection and assessments ensures that assigned work is performed in conformance with established protocols, including the National Electrical Code (NEC), laws and regulations governing electrical work as assigned by local jurisdictions, and standards.

The work is done most likely at a desk but regularly requires physical effort to reach all work areas for inspections and evaluations. Work is performed inside and outside the Gallery as necessary. Occasionally, may be required to wear protective clothing and equipment.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-802-12. At the GS- 12 level you must demonstrate at least one year of professional work as an electrical engineer in the planning and estimating maintenance, repair and evaluation of a buildings electrical system equivalent in responsibility to the GS-11 level.
