Responsibilities

  • You will serve as a general labor worker performing a variety of project maintenance tasks which include: picnic table repair, installation of signs, painting, road repair, and repair of charcoal grills.
  • Remove dead trees and brush from recreation areas. Use shovels to dig holes in the ground.
  • Clean outdoor surfaces, such as tables and benches. Use a water hose and soap to wash vehicles. Use brooms, mops, and waxing applicants to clean floors.
  • Follow verbal instructions to complete a job or task, such as gather supplies or tools as instructed or dispose of trash or debris as instructed.
  • Follow written instructions for the proper use of hand tools and follow equipment and tool manuals or safety labels in order to understand safe use requirements.
  • Operate a walking power or riding mower to mow grass and use mower safety procedures to avoid injury. Also operate string trimmers and power blowers.
  • Use simple hand tools to complete jobs or tasks and use hand tools safety procedure to avoid injury.
  • Perform heavy lifting in a safe manner to avoid a strained back to other injury.

  • This position may require you to work in inclement weather.

  • Required to sign a Pathways Participant Agreement and adhere to conditions of that agreement.

  • Must remain in good academic standing (as defined by the institution).
  • Must currently be a student that has been accepted for enrollment or are enrolled at least half-time in an accredited high school, college, professional, technical, vocational, or trade school pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.


Qualifications

Who May Apply: Students who are eligible for participation in the Department of the Army Internship Program
Positions are open to current students pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution on at least a half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled). Short-term training programs (e.g., several two-week programs completed) are not considered an academic course of study.

Internship for current students in good standing at an accredited education.

For this internship, you must be able to work full time during the summer hours. Although appointment is not to exceed one year, incumbent will be on leave without pay during school.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Student Trainee (General Labor Worker), WG-3501-2 without more than normal supervision. Qualified applicants must show in their resume the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work of a Student Trainee (General Labor Worker), WG-3501-2, to include tasks such as: washing vehicles, utilizing simple hand tools, and/or mowing grass using a power or riding mower. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

In addition to the screen-out element, you will be evaluated on the following Job elements on the basis of your level of competency through your resume and responses to the on-line assessment questionnaire.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate effort is involved in occasionally lifting and carrying heavy objects (weighing about 50 pounds); frequently lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects (about 40 pounds); frequently moving or pushing trash receptacles, picnic tables, lawn mowers, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed outdoors with frequent exposure to long periods of hot sun. Subject to cuts, bruises, fumes, burns, etc., in performing maintenance.

Education Requirements: Current enrollment or acceptance for enrollment in a qualifying educational institution seeking a degree or certificate on a full or half-time basis, as defined by the educational institution.
