Fairfax County Health Department's MCH Program offers three home visiting programs: Healthy Families Fairfax, MCH Field, and Nurse Family Partnership. Multiple Maternal Child Health Home Visiting Public Health Nurse II positions assigned to a Maternal Child Health home visiting program are available at various District Office locations.

Provides home visiting services to high risk pregnant women, infants, and children in accordance with the specific home visiting program model. Transforms the lives of vulnerable families using a multidisciplinary approach to improve pregnancy outcomes, child health and development, and family economic self-sufficiency. Applies public health nursing principles of case-finding, health promotion, anticipatory guidance and education, case management and disease prevention. Identifies, screens, and assesses clients for health risks and implements public health nursing interventions that focus on positive pregnancy and infant/child health outcomes. Provides parenting education, child health and development screening, evaluation and consultation. Possesses a knowledge of community resources and refers clients as necessary. Collaborates with other professionals to assure appropriate care is provided, coordinates multi-disciplinary services, and supports families in attaining their targeted goals.

Note: Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. This position may initially respond to public health priorities resulting from COVID-19. This position is designated as essential and is part of the County’s public health emergency response which operates seven days a week. Based on emergency response deployment needs, this position will be assigned to a Maternal Child Health program if not needed in the response.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in nursing; plus one year of work experience in a public health/community health setting; or two years of full-time post-licensure experience as a nurse in an equivalent health care setting whose focus was primarily prevention services and community education.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

Possession of current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Driver's License
AED-Required within 60 days
CPR -Required within 60 days

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of post-licensure experience working with pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and children.

One year of experience preferred in home visiting case management in a public health/community setting serving culturally diverse families.

Possess strong critical thinking skills, demonstrate problem-solving skills, and the ability to exercise sound judgment.

Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member; experience working on interdisciplinary teams.

Models outstanding customer service skills with the ability to establish and maintain collaborative connections with internal and external partners.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications such as an electronic medical records system.

Bilingual in Spanish and English highly preferred.

Ability to work a flexible schedule (evenings and weekends) desirable.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a sanction screening, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. Generally, works in an office environment yet may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
