Clinical public health nurses provide various services such as pregnancy testing and counseling, maternity services, public health assessment, international travel vaccinations, newcomer (refugee) services, sexually transmitted infection treatment and follow-up, HIV testing and counseling, tuberculosis screening and treatment, adult and childhood immunizations to individuals, families, and targeted at-risk populations in the clinical setting. Provides appropriate nursing interventions based on assessment of clients following public health standards of care. Utilizes a variety of nursing skills to meet identified needs of clients in a clinic setting. Collaborates with other service providers to promote comprehensive community-centered health care. Identifies gaps in community resources and shares with appropriate department staff who can work with community partners to build service capacity.

Note: Multiple positions may be hired from this announcement. Health Department positions are designated as essential and is part of the County’s emergency response which operates seven days a week. Based on emergency response deployment demands, this position may be reassigned to provide support as determined by the emergency response service needs. May be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting.

NOTE: This position includes a signing bonus of $2,000 for new hires.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in nursing; plus one year of work experience in a public health/community health setting; or two years of full-time post-licensure experience as a nurse in an equivalent health care setting whose focus was primarily prevention services and community education.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Driver's license
AED-Required within 60 days
CPR -Required within 60 days
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working in a public health or community health services setting providing a variety of preventive health services in a fast paced clinical setting. Preferred candidates will have experience working with diverse populations using a team approach for service delivery. Experience working with children in a clinical setting. Possess strong critical thinking skills, demonstrates problem-solving skills, and ability to exercise sound judgement. Interpersonal skills to verbally communicate effectively and clearly. Models outstanding customer service skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationships. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other software such as an electronic medical records system. Phlebotomy experience preferred.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a sanction screenings, a child protective services, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle.
