This position may required occasional domestic and overseas travel.
DURATION APPOINTMENT: Temporary Non-Status Position: 1 year renewable for up to 4 years
This is a Security Instructor position in the Office of Mobile Security Deployments (MSD), Training Directorate (T), Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS), US Department of State. The incumbent serves as Security Instructor to ensure that a training program is in place
This position is eligible for situational telework.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides expertise in the design, development, coordination, and implementation of basic and advanced training for operational MSD personnel; instructs in both classroom and at field locations; guides and mentors assistant instructors in curriculum development, coordinate course schedules from multiple sources up to several years in advance; observes and evaluates training courses, and continually revises training as a result of established evaluation processes.
Coordinates with MSD training cadre, on course offerings that are internal to MSD and are taught without any outside support. For example, the training ranges from fundamentals of marksmenship, support weapons, defensive tactics, communications equipment, land navigation, live fire CQB, compound/embassy defense, PRS, rotary wing air operations and planning, physical fitness/wellness, emergency medical care, foreign weapons and all other course subjects that are taught during MSD's Green Team, Specialized Skills Training and Sustainment Training.
Incumbent coordinates and aligns tactics techniques and procedures while participating in curriculum review conferences with all other DS tactical skills programs; provides direct support to other related anti-terrorism programs sponsored by the Department of State.
EVALUATIONS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs) and other characteristics that are relevant to the duties of this position and must be fully supported by information in your resume:
- Knowledge of health and safety standards and procedures for firearm ranges and training facilities.
- Knowledge of adult learning theory, principles of instruction, and adult instructional concepts and methods to present training courses covering a broad range of complex technical subjects.
- Knowledge of non-lethal law enforcement defensive law and apprehension tactics.

Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience designing and coordinating advanced training programs.
- Experience instructing in both classroom and field settings.
- Experience updating curriculum to reflect changes in security and training techniques.
There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.
