Job Details

The Biostatistics Center of the Milken Institute School of Public Health is an off-campus research facility of The George Washington University located in Rockville, Maryland. The Biostatistics Center serves as the coordinating center for large scale multi-center clinical trials and epidemiological studies funded by federal agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Enterprise Systems Developer III plans and develops object-oriented Java-based Web applications and database programming supporting, enhancing, and upgrading the clinical trials systems at the Biostatistics Center, as a member of the Web Systems Development Group.

Description of tasks:

- Plans and develops applications necessary for the daily support of clinical trials systems, utilizing appropriate tools to identify and address problems. Ensure consistency with initial design and that software meets all requirements of quality, security, modifiability, extensibility etc.
- Collaborates with other professionals to determine functional and non-functional requirements for new software or applications.
- Implements, patches and upgrades existing systems as needed.
- Codes and tests software developed and implements solutions as required.
- Uses tools and methodologies to create representations for functions and user interface of desired product.
- Develops high-level product specifications with attention to system integration, usability (UX/UI), and feasibility.
- Troubleshoots systems as needed.
- Defines all aspects of development from appropriate technology and workflow to coding standards. Documents developed software for users to reference.
- Trains end-users as necessary and creates user guide to assist users and provides additional support of applications as required. Provide technical guidance and coaching to other members of the team.
- Participates in user review, verification, and testing sessions. Communicate successfully all concepts and guidelines to other team members.
- Participates on committees and project teams to provide and receive feedback on issues related to clinical trials applications and the surrounding research needs.
- Collaborates and works with other members of the systems development team and attends meetings with Web Systems Developers and Study members as needed. Communicates with and provides support for local and remote users at the clinical sites.
- Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Strong technical background and excellent IT skills
-Experience in software and application design and architecture
-Experience in software development and coding in various languages and frameworks (Java, OSGi, JavaScript, Vue, HTML, CSS, Struts, Spring)
-Experience in designing and developing complex Windows-based and Linux-based systems. web applications, and batch applications
-Understanding of software quality assurance principles
-Experience in working with relational databases
-A technical innovative mindset with great attention to detail
-High quality organizational and leadership skills
-Outstanding communication and presentation abilities
-Experience in migrating monolith architecture applications to a service-oriented architecture.
