Children’s Services Specialist – Family Reunification

The Children’s Services Specialist – Family Reunification is primarily responsible for overseeing social service programs providing home studies and post-release services to unaccompanied undocumented children and their families under the Office of Refugee Resettlement/Department of Unaccompanied Children’s Operations (ORR/DUCO). This position provides oversight to a network of providers to include training, technical assistance, case consultation, monitoring, and quality assurance to ensure compliance with program policies and procedures.    This position is also responsible for reviewing sub-recipient reports, data collection and analysis, facilitating training as needed to internal and external stakeholders, and submitting reports to ORR/DUCO at required intervals.  This position will also conduct and provide remote home study and post-release services as needed. Therefore Spanish language ability is strongly recommended.     Contributes to the Bishops’ strategic plan for the Conference and demonstrates the willingness and ability to understand, respect, and contribute to the USCCB mission and fulfill job duties according to its Catholic identity.

Graduate degree plus three years’ experience Major Field/Specialty: Social Work, Child Welfare, Case Management, Mental Health, or related field.

  • Knowledge and application of child welfare principles, practices, and systems to include child and family assessment skills, child development and family dynamics, and child placement
  • International child migration, including issues related to children in immigration proceedings, victims of trafficking, and refugees
  • Professional case management skills, including case note documentation
  • Knowledge of grants and cooperative agreements
  • Strategic planning skills
  • Ability to maintain effective external agency leadership partnerships
  • Knowledge of program outreach and capacity development
  • Ability to analyze data
  • Knowledge and understanding of Catholic Church structure and teachings
