The Biostatistics Center of the Milken Institute School of Public Health is an off-campus research facility of The George Washington University located in Rockville, Maryland. The Biostatistics Center serves as the coordinating center for large scale multi-center clinical trials and epidemiological studies funded by federal agencies including the National Institutes of Health. This experienced position supports the development and implementation of enterprise systems software at the university, and analyzes existing enterprise-wide application specifications and develops technical specifications from functional requirements. This role performs application analysis, design, development, integration, enhancement, maintenance, and support, and also develops or modifies software application modules using disciplined software development processes to implement solutions according to business requirements. Additional responsibilities include evaluating and increasing the program’s effectiveness, adapting the program to new requirements as necessary, writing detailed documentation to develop programs, and assisting in defining and documenting policies, procedures, and standards related to applications development. This position helps to establish best practices and procedures and follows documentation, version control, testing, and migration standards.
Essential duties include:
-Works on projects including web-based applications, website enhancements, including documenting, designing, developing, testing and monitoring.
-Updates and maintains existing web applications to address BSC users’ requirements, meet the security standards and enhance the presentation and discovery of information tailored to reach the intended audiences.
-Develops comprehensive testing procedures.
-Provides code maintenance, and performs bug fixes.
-Works with end users to collect their business requirements for the web applications.
-Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Strong technical background and excellent IT skills
-Experience in software and application design and architecture
-Experience in software development and coding in various languages and frameworks (Java, OSGi, JavaScript, Vue, HTML, CSS, Struts, Spring)
-Experience in designing and developing complex Windows-based and Linux-based systems. web applications, and batch applications
-Understanding of software quality assurance principles
-Experience in working with relational databases
-A technical innovative mindset with great attention to detail
-High quality organizational and leadership skills
-Outstanding communication and presentation abilities
-Experience in migrating monolith architecture applications to a service-oriented architecture.
