Responsibilities

  • You will prepare pleadings, written discovery, motions and legal memoranda, witness interviews, and taking and defending depositions.
  • You will work with Navy experts, first/second chair hearings, issuing and managing litigation hold notices, document collection, and working with Naval Litigation Office (NLO?s) litigation support contractor to manage electronic document databases.
  • You will principally represent the Department of the Navy before the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals.
  • You will assist the Department of Justice in matters filed against the Department of the Navy in the Court of Federal Claims or other federal courts and may be assigned to other matters as the needs of the office require.
  • You will perform administrative functions as related to the practice of law and participate in organization-wide or command level initiatives.
  • You will be responsible for directing, coordinating and reviewing the work of the ad hoc team and for assisting less experienced attorneys serving as co-counsel on assigned cases.

Qualifications

Trial Attorney: To be selected at the GS 14 level, the successful applicant must have a minimum of three-and-one-half years of recent and relevant legal experience, including demonstrated experience in government contract law and litigation, or complex commercial litigation or construction litigation.

Sr. Trial Attorney: To be selected at the GS 15 level, the successful applicant must have a minimum of five-and-a-half years of recent and relevant legal experience, including demonstrated experience in government contract law and litigation, or complex commercial or construction litigation.


Education

Law Degree and Bar Membership : Incumbent must have graduated from a law school that is accredited by the American Bar Association, must be an active member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia, and be admitted to practice before a state or federal court, of good character; and in full compliance with continuing legal education requirements of an appropriate bar. The incumbent must maintain this professional qualification at all times as a condition of employment.

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered.   • recent and relevant litigation experience;
  • government contract law/litigation experience;

  • Applicants with a record of making significant contributions to the advancement of the DON OGC or equivalent Office of the General Counsel or, Law Firm/Office beyond the day-to-day legal practice are desired.
