Summary

This position is located in the Health Care Services, Nursing Service. The primary purpose is to assist the Supervisory Clinical Nurses in managing and directing nursing are required for off tours of duty acting as the nurse supervisor and resource person to all areas (Long Term Care, Memory Support, Assisted Living, Independent Living Plus and Independent Living).

Responsibilities

As a Supervisory Clinical Nurse, you will:
  • Ensure comprehensive nursing care activities utilizing the nursing process are followed and provide staff supervision and evaluation of nursing care provided during assigned tour of duty.
  • Supervise Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), students and external agency personnel, make assignments in accordance with established written AFRH, Nursing Service and State Nurse Practice guidelines.
  • Assume authority to make changes within the immediate unit and work assignments of staff which are deemed not within the employees' scope of practice or ability.
  • Delegate assignments consistent with the employees' scope of practice and capabilities, as well as the needs of the facility.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Education - A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.

RN Licensure - For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

AND

For the GS-11, Specialized experience includes one year of experience at the GS-09 level or equivalent that includes responsibility for ALL of the following:

Overseeing physician/nursing care plans; AND

Reviewing and making recommendations for improvement to quality of overall nursing care; AND

Possession of a diploma, associates degree, bachelors degree, or masters degree from a professional nursing educational program.

OR

Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.

CPR certification is mandatory.

SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired.

Education Requirements: Graduate or higher level degree, bachelors degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- A one year supervisory probationary period may be required.

Selectees will be subject to the AFRH Tuberculosis Surveillance Program.
- Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
- Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis.
- File a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.
- Because the AFRH's mission requires uninterrupted, direct human support and medical care for its Residents, this position is considered essential for continuing AFRH operations. Therefore, the incumbent is expected to arrive for duty on time, as scheduled, and to complete the assigned tour during emergency situations such as hazardous weather.
