Senior Marketing Manager, Open Access Publishing Job Summary:

Do you have open access publishing experience? If so, we're looking for a Senior Marketing Manager, Open Access Publishing to join a well-established and world-renowned Association in Washington, DC. This will be a long-term Contract opportunity, and until the world returns to normal, will remain fully remote.

The Senior Marketing Manager, Open Access Publishing is responsible for developing the strategic direction and leading product marketing and outreach efforts to engage current and prospective authors, editors and reviewers and librarians. You will be responsible for leading existing researcher initiatives including strategic marketing planning and execution in the area of Open Science and Open Access publishing.

Of key importance to the role is building loyalty around and facilitating the transition to an Open Access economy. As the publishing model becomes an increasingly critical part of the company's business model, it is important to communicate the benefits and processes of the company's Open Access initiatives. You must be well-versed in transformative open access publishing agreements, including Read and Publish agreements.

Senior Marketing Manager, Open Access Publishing Responsibilities:
  • Successfully promote company's Open Access strategy to all academic audiences. Market the various open access options available to Publications authors and institutions, promote the Editors' Choice and Read + Publish agreements, and contribute to the execution of the marketing plan for open access journals.
  • Oversee introduction of market-specific and translated marketing materials and programs to the publications' large audience of authors, reviewers and researchers, developing content assets, including video resources, webinars, training toolkits, Axial content, social media etc.
  • Develop communications to authors regarding changes in Paragon Plus or the manuscript submission process. Insert marketing messages and other marketing content when appropriate.
  • Develop materials to support usage of open access publishing programs by authors, and create messaging to communicate the importance of open science publishing programs to academic librarians.
  • Independently update and enhance company's open science resource center.
  • Capitalize on opportunities to promote company's programs related to Open Science.

Senior Marketing Manager, Open Access Publishing Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in science, marketing, journalism or related area, or equivalent experience.
  • 7-10 years of related experience, with specific experience in open access publishing required.
  • Experience with a STM or business publisher is preferred.
  • Mid-to-high level of familiarity with WordPress, web analytics and digital advertising analytics preferred.
  • Working knowledge of email marketing platform preferred, ideally Eloqua.
