Responsibilities

If you are selected for this position, you will perform the following duties:
  • As a first-level supervisor within the NSWB, you will oversee the subordinate staff in planning, writing, editing and managing the content of various communications vehicles used in disseminating information on NIAID programs, activities, priorities and accomplishments.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and assistance to senior NIAID leaders and staff on the development of communications content for external communications vehicles.
  • Represent or designate subordinate staff members to represent, the OCGR and NIAID at meeting with NIH and other government agencies to convey information on Institute programs, policies and direction relating to media relations, communications and outreach.
  • Work collaboratively with NIAID organizations and with NIH and DHHS to ensure timely review and clearance of NIAID communications content and materials and alignment with communications and program objectives.
  • Participate wit the Branch Chief in identifying and resolving complex communications issues and advise the Branch Chief and other OCGR officials on the use of various communications vehicles and approaches in advancing the goals and objectives of the institute with regard to the development and dissemination of information.
  • Identify and implement ways to improve the efficiency of operations and increase workload productivity. Develop overall requirements and schedule to accomplish assigned functions and activities.

Qualifications

In order to qualify at the GS-14 level:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: writing and editing papers that translate research and communicate the organization's programs and activities; providing a full range of editorial support to management and professional staff on materials intended for publication or presentation; managing the research, development and composition of a wide variety of written initiatives concerning complex scientific topics; planning and directing information dissemination approaches; providing advice on public affairs and communications matters to high-ranking personnel.
