Responsibilities

The EPA OIG is seeking seeking volunteers for Summer 2021. The EPA OIG offers internships for students interested in seeking valuable work experience in government and designed to complement the complement the interns educational pursuits while meeting the expressed needs of the agency. Volunteers have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the Department's mission to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.

Positions are available in the following offices located in Washington, DC.
  • Office of Counsel

Ideal candidates for these internships are individuals pursuing Juris Doctorate (J.D.) in general law. Acceptance of applications for this announcement will be limited to first-year (second semester), second and third-year law students. We are only accepting the first 100 applicants. This vacancy will close after the applicant limit is reached.

All volunteers are required to sign the Participant Agreement (will be completed later during the security process if selected).

Candidates will be considered on the basis of the applicability of their education to specific EPA OIG assignments.

Applicants must meet the definition of a "Student" at the time of appointment and throughout the duration of the appointment.

Student means an individual who has been accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled).

At the time of appointment, applicant must:
  • Be at least 16 years of age.
  • Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited institution.
  • Attend an accredited educational institution, including but not limited to; high school, trade school, technical or vocational institute, junior college, college, university, or graduate school.
  • Have permission from the institution at which he/she is currently enrolled to participate in the internship program.
  • Must be enrolled on a, at least, half-time basis in a course of study related to the work to be performed.

This is a Public Trust Position. Employment in this position requires a background investigation. If you are selected and cannot obtain a favorable security determination within a reasonable period of time due to disclosed or undisclosed background issues, the tentative employment offer may be withdrawn.

Selectees will be required to complete a "Declaration of Federal Employment", (OF-306), prior to being appointed to determine their suitability for Federal employment and to authorize a background investigation. Qualifications

To be eligible for an internship opportunity you must meet the following criteria:
  • You must be a current student enrolled at least half time in:
    • A qualifying educational institution pursuing a degree, or a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school), or a post-secondary homeschool curriculum that has been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education)
    • A certificate program means post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum;
    • Students who take online courses are eligible to participate so long as all other requirements are met and the school is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Acceptance of applications for this announcement will be limited to first-year (second semester), second and third-year law students.
  • You must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least a 2.0.
  • You must be at least 16 years of age.

    You MUST maintain status as a student for the duration of this program. If you are graduating in Spring 2021 and not pursuing additional education in Fall 2021, you are not eligible for this program.
