About the Position: This position is with the Army Reserve Aviation Command (ARAC), Aviation Support Facility (ASF) Eustis East, Army Reserve Aviation Command located in Fort Eustis, Virginia.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricates, lays out, forms and installs a variety of metal surfaces and structural members for aircraft.
  • Examines aircraft flying surfaces and supporting sheet metal structures to determine extent of repair using applicable technical manuals.
  • Removes damaged aircraft structural members and installs replacement members including beams and formers.
  • Plans and lays out work using applicable work practices for repair and modification of aircraft metal parts and components.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft) without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out elements to be considered further. To meet the screen out elements, applicants should document experience in the following: Assisting with plans and lay outs of work, helping to determine repair work needed, operating various shop equipment, and helping to cut, bend and form metal parts. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas:

  • Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)
  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
  • Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal Work
  • Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (includes constructing repair, and forging)
  • Layout and Pattern Development (includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation)
  • Physical effort: Makes repairs from ladders, scaffolds and toeboards and where parts worked on are in hard to reach places that require climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts items that weigh up to 20 pounds and occasionally may lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • Working conditions: Works in well-lighted but noisy shop and outside subject to heat, cold, and inclement weather. There is continuous exposure to disagreeable odors, smoke, and fumes. Wears protective masks, aprons, and goggles. There are dangers of cuts, falls, burns, and injuries from hand and power tools.
