This position is located in the Office of Enforcement, which serves the public interest by ensuring effective regulations and protecting customers through understanding markets and their regulation, timely identifying and remedying market problems, assuring compliance with Commission rules and regulations, and detecting and crafting remedies to address market manipulation and other non-compliance issues.

At time of application, applicant must submit proof of current enrollment in a degree-seeking program. If selected, applicant must provide proof of continuing education through either the Summer or Fall 2021 semesters. To meet the definition of a student, applicants must be enrolled at least half-time in a degree-seeking program.

These positions are temporary, they may be converted to a full time, career-conditional position. Any conversions to full time or career-conditional status is neither implied nor guaranteed.

Major duties of the Student Trainee (Accountant):

- Apply professional accounting principles, techniques, and theories to research accounting issues to advise senior accounting staff.

- Perform a variety of basic research and analyses on accounting issues, and prepare routine memos and summary reports for senior accounting staff.

- Advising the senior accounting staff on a variety of accounting issues.

- Prepare draft summaries of work performed based on accounting research to advise the senior accounting staff on a variety of accounting issues.

Duties and responsibilities at the GS-5 level will be of less complexity.

Qualifications

In addition to the educational requirement for Accountants, to be eligible for internship positions, candidates must meet the following qualification requirements.

GS-5: Candidates must either have completed 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree OR have 3 years of experience one of which was equivalent to the GS-4 level OR have one full year of specialized experience. Experience at GS-4 level is: Specialized experience : Professional accounting, auditing or related experience that demonstrates
awareness of Generally Accepted Auditing Principles.

GS-7: Candidates must either have completed 1 full academic year of graduate level education or have eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree OR have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 level. Specialized experience is defined as Professional accounting, auditing or related experience utilizing Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
