Job Announcement
Reviews appeals applications filed to determine compliance with submission requirements. Coordinates scheduling, creates maps, and provides background research to staff. Drafts notifications and prepares mailings based on legal requirements. Provides administrative and technical support to the staff coordinator assigned the appeal including publication and posting of staff reports online, and close-out of completed applications. Maintains and updates appeals database. Maintains and updates the master and online Zoning Ordinance and manages the Zoning Ordinance web pages and listservs. Provides support for division internet presence. Assists staff planners in the design and development of informational web pages related to proposed Zoning Ordinance amendments and other zoning topics. Provides administrative support to the division director including developing and maintaining division databases for performance metrics, as needed. Provides training, oversight, and backup support to the OAB administrative assistant. Issues administrative permits such as food truck permits. Performs other duties as assigned.
Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; plus three years of paraprofessional planning or zoning related work, as defined by the area to which assigned.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong abilities in written and oral communication. Familiarity with Fairfax County land records and permits issuance. Experience using personal computer; including word processing, managing online documents, database applications, Geographic Information Systems, and web page creation and management. Bachelor’s degree in planning or equivalent work experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position is primarily sedentary; however, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items under 15 pounds in weight. Work requires the ability to communicate clearly and operate computer . All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Panel interview and may include exercise.
