Victim Witness Assistance Program

$44,538 (Grade 14) + Benefits

The Victim Witness Specialist provides direct services to victims of crime throughout the criminal justice process.  Duties include extensive work with clients, providing crisis intervention, safety planning, referrals, court preparation and advocacy in English and Spanish; informing victims of their rights and assisting with exercising those rights; conducting professional and community education and translating documents and materials.

Requirements: four-year college degree; one year of experience in a human service delivery program providing direct guidance and case work services; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Preferred qualifications include a four-year college degree in psychology, sociology, criminal justice or social work; and 2 years’ experience in the provision of direct services to victims of crime. The ideal candidate should have a solid knowledge of victims’ rights and reactions, crisis intervention, case management techniques and procedures; to be able to prioritize and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally in English and Spanish to include speaking publicly to a variety of community and professional audiences.

Successful completion of a criminal background check required before employment. This position is contingent upon availability of grant funds.
