Assistant/Associate/Professor in Public Health Policy

The George Mason University's Department of Health Administration and Policy invites applications for an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Public Health Policy. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.

About the Department: GMU's Department of Health Administration and Policy has educated students and conducted research in health systems management, health policy and health informatics since 2010. Today, graduate programs in these areas seek to prepare new leaders to apply management and evidence-based decision making to improve public health and the quality of health care. The distinctive approach to all HAP degree programs is rigorous, innovative, accessible and hands-on.

About the Position: The Department of Health Administration and Policy (HAP) is seeking an outstanding faculty member to develop academic research and teach in areas related to health policy and public health or health systems management. Areas of expertise may include demography, political science, quality improvement and patient safety, implementation science, health care system design, health care equity, health communication, or related areas. Candidates with established extramurally-funded research and prior teaching are preferred. This position complements the Departments programs and the College's planned transition to become a college of public health in the near future.

The appointment will begin in August 2021, though other starting times may be possible. This is a full-time (9-month) position.

Responsibilities: * Teach and mentor students at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels; * Maintain an extramurally funded research program; * Engage in professional service. Faculty will be expected to collaborate in the development of multidisciplinary courses, degree programs and research.

Required Qualifications: * An earned Doctorate degree in a field or discipline such as demography, political science, medical sociology, or a medical degree; * An established research trajectory related to policy (particularly federal or state) and public health, or policy and health care systems, as evidenced by refereed publications and external funding; * Teaching experience; * Strong interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: * Candidates for Associate or full professorships ideally will have experience with nontraditional adult learning and online teaching and evidence of mentoring doctoral students; * Candidates for Assistant professorships ideally will have postdoctoral fellowship training with an established trajectory of refereed publications and evidence of research funding (extramurally funded grants or awards); * Because the HAP department faculty include scholars from a variety of disciplines, we are especially interested in applicants with a background and interest in working in multidisciplinary academic settings.

For full consideration, applicants must apply online at http://jobs.gmu.edu/ for position F9230z. Applications must include: (1) a cover letter of interest, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a personal statement on research trajectory, student mentorship, and teaching experience (as Philosophy of Teaching); (4) a statement of diversity (as Other doc) [see Diversity Statement Prompt below]; (5) a list of three references with full contact information. Candidates who are invited for a campus interview must arrange for the search committee to receive three professional letters of reference prior to their campus interview;

Diversity Statement Prompt: Have you worked with any individuals in a teaching, mentorship or advisory capacity who are from marginalized groups? If so, how did you help them identify and overcome barriers to success? Think about your experience with research mentorship, teaching or tutoring, academic advising, and community mentorship. (No more than 2 paragraphs.)

For questions about the position, please contact Dr. Alison Cuellar, Search Committee Chair, at: aevanscu@gmu.edu.

Initial review of applications will begin on January 26, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled. An offer of employment is contingent upon background verification.
